Summer fete season has officially arrived as two Bishop's Stortford primary schools host their annual fayres this Saturday (June 9).

Prepare for sand - and lots of it - at Northgate's festivities. The Cricketfield Lane school will provide fun and games with a seaside theme from 11am until 2pm.

There will be pirate ship inflatables, arcade games, flip flop flinging, promenade shops, plenty of beach fun and traditional seaside snacks for sale, including cones of chips, ice cream and candy floss.

Thorn Grove Primary School is also staging a themed summer fete. Its Sports Fayre, which takes place between noon and 3pm, will let visitors bounce on an inflatable assault course, play football croquet, take part in a penalty shootout, browse through stalls and feast on barbecued goodies.

As all strenuous exercise should be done as part of a balanced diet, there will also be plenty of baked treats for sale after the best-in-show cake competition, judged by Bishop's Stortford Independent editor Paul Winspear.

Entry to both fayres costs £1 for adults, but children go free.
