Brad Kella, Martin James Bartlett and James Beckwith part of 2025 World Piano Day events in Saffron Walden




Celebrate the ‘king of all instruments’ on World Piano Day in Saffron Walden next month.

Held on the 88th day of the year to honour the piano’s 88 keys, this year’s event takes place on Saturday March 29.

And Saffron Hall is joining in the global party by hosting a range of events across the town.

The winner of Channel 4’s The Piano is known for his heartfelt and inspiring story and a playing style praised by global phenomenon Lang Lang.

Kella will bring his remarkable talent to life in two intimate, free 20-minute performances.

Martin James Bartlett, Saffron Hall, 4pm

The winner of the 2014 BBC Young Musician of the Year will perform a programme that showcases the piano’s extraordinary range of expression and Martin will introduce the repertoire from the stage.

Expect iconic works by great composers such as Bach, Schubert, Ravel, Debussy and Gershwin, brought to life by one of the most exciting pianists of his generation.

The Pianist, Saffron Screen, 7pm

During the Second World War, acclaimed Polish musician Wladyslaw faces various struggles as he loses contact with his family. As the situation worsens, he hides in the ruins of Warsaw in order to survive.

The Pianist won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role and Best Director in 2003 as well as BAFTAS for Best Film and Best Director.

Jazz Club, Saffron Walden Town Hall, 8pm

Award-winning jazz pianist and composer James Beckwith’s career highlights include acclaimed shows at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club and collaborations with top-tier artists.

He will bring his unique blend of innovation and artistry for a relaxed evening of jazz with unallocated seating.

Open piano sessions, Saffron Hall and Audley End House, 10am-4pm

Would you like the chance to play a Steinway – the Rolls-Royce of pianos – for your family and friends in the impressive setting of Saffron Hall, the piano in the grand library of Audley End House or the piano in the Saffron Hall foyer?

At these open piano sessions, you will have 10-20 minutes to showcase your talent. Simply fill out a simple form at www.saffronhall.com to express your interest.

If you don’t want to play but still want to join in the fun, everyone is welcome to watch as an audience member, whether you are supporting friends and family or just enjoying the performances.
