Mainstay of Ricky Gervais TV shows Colin Hoult previews Edinburgh Fringe show at Stortford’s Laughing Bishops Comedy Club

A TV regular and mainstay of several of comedian Ricky Gervais’ series comes to Bishop’s Stortford on Sunday with a preview of his Edinburgh Fringe show.

Colin Hoult appeared in the award-winning Netflix series After Life as short-fused amateur theatre director Ken and was also Warwick Davis’ “spiritual guru” in the Gervais’ comedy Life’s Too Short. He also appeared with Gervais in Derek.

A successful character comedian, he is well known for his celebrated ‘has-been actress’ character Anna Mann and has received great critical acclaim for his live shows, which were listed among the best-reviewed comedy shows at the Fringe by British Comedy Guide.

Hoult will be joined by political firebrand Mark Thomas, who is on his second visit in two weeks to the home of The Laughing Bishops Comedy Club at the Water Lane United Reformed Church Hall.

Thomas was also a TV regular in the 1980s with his Channel 4 show The Mark Thomas Comedy Product and at 61 years of age remains an angry (older) man who regularly has the Tories in his acerbic sights.

For his latest show he promises jokes, rants, politics, play and the occasional sing-song.

Thomas’ Gaffa Tapes Edinburgh Fringe preview, and Hoult’s work in progress about “family, fatherhood, and a formative childhood experience with a ouija board and a gorilla” is on Sunday (June 2) at 7.30pm. For tickets see paddylennox.com
