Plot to plate: Make the most of seasonal produce at cooking workshop in Stortford

A gardening guru and a restaurateur are bringing a new ‘Plot to Plate’ workshop to Bishop’s Stortford.

The session at the Bishop’s Stortford Young People’s Centre in Northgate End on Sunday October 12 will showcase how to use a bumper harvest of fruit and vegetables.

Chef Karim Ullah, who runs Brohmon in Chapel Hill, Stansted, will demonstrate tasty, versatile and easy-to-prepare savoury dishes, whilst Wendy Gordon, who owns Well Bean Gardening, will be baking cakes and puddings. Both are advocates of eating seasonal, locally produced fruit and vegetables.

Wendy said: “All recipes will be using fruit and vegetables that are commonly grown on local allotments, so it’s the ideal workshop for anyone looking for ways to use up gluts – we’ll have lots of surprising ways to sneak courgettes into food that children will love – as well as anyone who would like to learn some new ways of introducing healthy ingredients into your everyday eating.”

At the workshop, from 1.30pm to 4.30pm, there will be a chance to get cooking, sample dishes and take home treats. Wendy said: “Recipes will, of course, be supplied.”

The workshop costs £60 per person. Email wellbeangardening@gmail.com to register. More information is available on the Well Bean Gardening Facebook page.
