Exhibition at Sawbridgeworth Memorial Hall arranged by mum of art prodigy Marcel Daniluk to showcase work of local artists
The mother of a talented young artist is organising an exhibition in Sawbridgeworth to help showcase his creative output – and that of other artists from the area.
Urszula Ossowska’s son Marcel Daniluk showed his artistic promise from the age of four when he was already producing pictures of fully formed sheep and boats. His output and talent grew and soon he was producing paintings for teachers and other people around the town.
Now, to coincide with the switching on of the Christmas lights in Sawbridgeworth on Saturday November 30, and as part of a Taste and Craft Festival at Sawbridgeworth Memorial Hall, Urszula has signed up her Leventhorpe School student son and four other artists to display their work.
Besides 13-year-old Marcel, the exhibition will feature the work of Chrystal Barry – whose paintings were the focus of an article in the Indie’s Culture section earlier this month.
Also displaying their work will be tattoo artist Tunde Oszlanczi, popular local postman and watercolour expert Ian Angus Campbell and Roma Bankowski.
Urszula said she was thrilled to be putting on the exhibition adding: “The idea for this event came from a place of passion and inspiration.
“As a proactive individual I became increasingly frustrated as a mother to a talented young artist who had limited opportunities to showcase his work.
“Art is essential to our lives; it brings vibrancy, strength, and hope.”
Below are short biographies of the artists displaying their work:
Marcel Daniluk
Marcel is a young boy who dreams of becoming a famous artist! His painting journey started when one of his former teachers from primary school became he decided to paint a picture for her to cheer her up, remembering how much she had loved his drawings, especially a sketch he had drawn of a wasp. After that, many teachers commissioned him to paint for them. That's how he decided to paint more and sell his work at the age of just 10. Marcel has since been featured in the Indie and events including charities such as Cancer Research, Helen Rollason Cancer and St Clare Hospice when he donated artwork and contributed towards raising over £5,000. Marcel has also gone on to showcasing his work at his own exhibitions. Marcel says: "Dont lose your colours"
Roma Bankowski
“Art has been a passion of mine since childhood, a talent that my parents recognised early on. Encouraged by their support, my journey into the world of art began at a young age. I went on to graduate from one of the most prestigious art universities in Poland and have had the privilege of participating in numerous exhibitions and events throughout my career. Like many, I faced challenges, balancing my artistic ambitions with family life and work. However, I am thrilled to say I’ve now returned to my creative roots. I am the proud owner of Art Caffè at Oakridge Nursery in Sawbridgeworth, where you can explore both my artwork and a welcoming creative space.”
Ian Angus Campbell
I am a complete amateur and hobby painter, I decided to take up watercolours 22 years ago after watching a TV programme called Simply Painting with Frank Clarke. He made it look so easy, so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm self taught and learned from books and VHS cassettes borrowed from my library (all pre YouTube and social media) I've been a postman in Sawbridgeworth since 1989.
Tunde Oszlanczi :
“I’m a tattoo artist from Hungary with a BA in Visual Arts Education. My passion for art spans many mediums, from traditional arts and crafts to digital creations. While I spend much of my time designing tattoos, I’ve recently embraced creating digital artwork on my iPad. I enjoy blending different styles, such as watercolour with ink illustrations, to bring unique, vibrant visions to life. I’m also passionate about travelling, always seeking new experiences to inspire my work and make lasting memories. My motto is: Art is like therapy—it makes life better and more beautiful, whether you’re a professional or an enthusiastic beginner.
Chrystal Barry
I’ve been painting for just over a year now. I like to use mixed media – I have even used Monopoly money! My biggest achievement is now having a piece of art in Ireland – my first overseas sale! I love to paint for fun, i think being creative is important and good for the soul There is no right or wrong with art – be creative, be weird and be you!
