Bishop’s Stortford Choral Society to hold open rehearsal for its concert of Verdi’s Requiem
Bishop’s Stortford Choral Society (BSCS) is inviting new singers to join this September as it prepares to perform one of the most powerful and celebrated works in the choral repertoire: the mighty Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi.
The choir, which draws its core membership from Stortford, Sawbridgeworth, Stansted and surrounding villages, is holding a free open rehearsal on Thursday September 12 for anyone interested in signing up and grabbing the chance to perform this iconic work in concert. It will be yet another “big sing” from BSCS after it brought Beethoven’s Choral Symphony No.9 to the heart of Stortford last year.
“Verdi’s Requiem is not a timid work by any stretch of the imagination and its popularity means it has featured at the BBC Proms many times, including this year,” says BSCS chair Helen Miller.
“It’s a theatrical rollercoaster and enormous fun both to listen to and sing. It also requires a lot of power from the choir and we’re aiming to raise the roof with this one.
“We already have around 70 to 80 regular singers but we’re always on the lookout for new sopranos, altos, tenors and basses. You’ll be sure of a very warm welcome.”
The open rehearsal will take place at the United Reformed Church in Water Lane, Bishop’s Stortford. It starts at 7.45pm and ends at 10pm. Please arrive from 7.30pm to say hello and pick up a copy of the music. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available at half time.
