Bishop’s Stortford Band’s free brass instrument lessons for children and adults as part of Arts in East Herts

Bishop’s Stortford Band is providing free brass instrument music lessons as part of the Arts in East Herts project.

The band is taking part in the cultural initiative in September and October, with the first of six weekly Tuesday sessions for children and adults being held on September 10.

It has received funding to offer the tuition, which will be led by teacher and band conductor Stuart Dodgson.

A spokesperson for the band said: “We’re offering these sessions for young people aged eight and upwards, with priority given to those who don’t already play an instrument.

“If there are spaces available, we will consider those who already play another instrument but are interested in taking up a brass instrument too.

“We would also like to extend the group lessons to adults who may have played an instrument or sung in a choir in the past, and are looking for a new challenge and would benefit from being in a friendly, non-competing band. Adults will need to be able to read music already.”

The lessons take place at Firlands, the Herts and Essex High School music block in Warwick Road, from 6.15pm to 6.45pm.

The project ends with an event on Saturday October 26 at Bishop’s Stortford Methodist Church (10am-noon), where people can try a brass instrument.

People are asked to register their interest in the free lessons by emailing bsbbrass@gmail.com.
