Bishop's Stortford funnyman Paddy Lennox stages second Zoom comedy gig featuring Troy Hawke, Allyson June Smith and Stephen Grant
Four comics will be performing a live show this Saturday (Mar 20) for Bishop's Stortford's own comedy club – and viewers can watch from the comfort of their own sofas.
Fresh from the success of his first Zoom comedy gig earlier this month, Paddy Lennox, who lives in Stortford, is hosting another in which he will perform alongside three other acclaimed stand-ups.
For the past year, the coronavirus pandemic has brought a halt to the 53-year-old's Laughing Bishops Comedy Club in Stortford and its older, sister club in Great Dunmow, so he is staging a live-streamed web show.
Paddy's previous Zoom gig on March 6 – featuring TV's Hal Cruttenden, Simon Brodkin and Ria Lina – was a huge hit; 350 tickets were sold and audiences left "enormously positive" feedback.
The line-up for this week's show features Stephen Grant, a multi-award-winning MC and resident compère at Brighton's Krater Comedy Club. Stephen performs at clubs and corporate events all over the UK and and has taken six critically-acclaimed shows to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe since 2003.
Also on the bill is Allyson June Smith, the Canadian-born comic and podcaster behind WTB (Women Talking Bollocks).
Allyson has received multiple nominations for Best Female Stand-up at the Canadian Comedy Awards, has taped her own hour-long Comedy Now special and has appeared at festivals across the world, including Just For Laughs Montreal and Edinburgh.
Completing the cast is Troy Hawke, an erudite, home-schooled 1930s throwback. Educated, sophisticated, but utterly clueless, he tackles modern issues head on in his uniquely untimely manner.
Front-row seats are available for £15 – these allow VIP audience members to be unmuted and let the performers feel the love and laughter. General tickets are £10, and there is an option to add a donation to support the comics, who have been badly hit by the Covid-19 crisis. See the Laughing Bishops website for more information.
The gig starts at 8pm. Audience members will be sent their Zoom links and passwords at around 7.20pm on Saturday, the day of the virtual show. If you have any issues or do not receive your login details, email paddylennox@gmail.com.
