Bishop's Stortford Art Society's club secretary Eileen Valder talks about her passion for painting...

When my husband's job forced relocating to Bishop's Stortford 23 years ago, I gave up my hairdressing and beauty business and took a part-time job in town.

After that I attended an adult education art course. I now hold the position of secretary for Bishop's Stortford Art Society. I enjoy the demonstrations, painting evenings and various outdoor events throughout the summer.

Before the pandemic, I was often found helping on the monthly stall the society has at the farmers' and craft market.

I paint mostly using acrylics, some watercolours and occasionally pastels. I don't always use brushes - a lot of my work is achieved using credit cards or other implements and is often purely my imagination running riot with colour.
