Sound-alike singer Dave Collison brings The Roy Orbison Project to Bishop’s Stortford in November
It was while singing karaoke that Dave Collison was told his voice sounded remarkably like Roy Orbison and that sparked a mission to bring the 60s legend’s music to life.
That musical journey began way back in 1992 and, driven by that feedback, Dave began performing more of Orbison’s songs and became a true fan of the music.
“I realised just how magical those melodies were – I fell in love with the music,” said Dave. “I perform songs targeting an audience who have fond memories of the ‘50s and ‘60s. It's a privilege to bring Roy’s music to life.”
And an audience at Home & Eat in Stansted Road, Bishop’s Stortford will be able to take a nostalgic trip down memory lane as Dave brings The Roy Orbison Project to the town in November.
The six-piece band got together just before the Covid-19 lockdown in 2019 and initially had to rehearse over Zoom. Now they are widely acknowledged as the UK’s most authentic Roy Orbison tribute acts performing the crooner’s greatest hits exactly as fans remember them, as well as delving into his work with The Traveling Wilburys.
The setlist will include classics such as Oh Pretty Woman, In Dreams, It’s Over, Crying, You Got It, I Drove All Night, Penny Arcade, Handle With Care and End Of The Line.
Colchester-based Dave is accompanied by Debra Westowski on backing vocals and keyboard; Marko Laver (backing vocals and bass); Andy McNish (backing vocals and acoustic guitar); Andy Lomath (drums); Conrad Di Ianni (electric guitar).
Performing as Orbison has its benefits for 53-year-old Dave. “My hair is only black because I do a Roy Orbison tribute,” he said.
His favourite song to sing is In Dreams which he says Orbison wrote the beginning before going to bed – then the end on getting up!
Tickets for the event on Saturday November 2 can be ordered online via https://wegottickets.com/event/616665 or by contacting Christina on 07957 360242.
