Sworders' sale of paintings by Ukrainian artists to help humanitarian aid effort
Nine paintings by Ukrainian artists go under the hammer at Sworders this month – and the Stansted auction house is donating its profits from the sale to the humanitarian appeal for those caught up in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Contemporary works by seven artists – Georgi Kolosovski (1913-88), Viktor Koshevoi (1924-2006), Alexei Mikhaylov (born 1934), Anatoly Shapovalov (b.1949), Vitaly Baranenko (b.1965), Natalya Ivanchenko (b.1971) and Arthur Anokhin (b.1990) – are among the lots in the two-day fine interiors sale at Sworders' Cambridge Road premises on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 22-23.
Profits from the sale will support the work of the Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.
A spokeswoman for Sworders said: "Like many others throughout the world, Sworders are deeply concerned by the conflict that is developing in Ukraine.
"Sworders will be offering nine paintings by contemporary Ukrainian artists, many of whom were born, studied and still live in the areas of the country that have been most affected by the war.
"To show support for them and for all of the people of Ukraine, Sworders will donate all profit from the sale of these works to the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal, which will provide food, water, shelter and healthcare to refugees and displaced families."
She added: "Our thoughts will remain with everyone affected by this disaster and Sworders continues to #StandWithUkraine."
