Craft beers, traditional ales and lagers from across the UK and around the world at Beer Shop in Bishop’s Stortford
The finest beers from across the UK and around the world can be enjoyed at Bishop’s Stortford’s new bottle shop, tap room and brewery.
Located the briefest of strolls from the town centre, Beer Shop in Northgate End is the place to sample new wave craft beers, traditional ales, lagers and all things wild, aged and funky.
Opened in April, the bottle shop has 20 rotating taps of top-notch draught beer, showcasing some of the country’s best brewers, to drink in or to take home. You can get one or two litres of everything on tap to take away – you can even bring your own growler.
It also has a 10-metre-long wall of cold storage containing more than 500 bottles and cans of beers from the likes of Belgium, Germany and the USA.
The shop’s own nano brewery, Bubble Works Brew Co, should be up and running by the end of the summer too and they are developing their own blendery by producing sour beers that have been barrel-aged for a year.
Beer Shop was co-founded by John Gudgin and Ben Hudson in 2012, with the pair opening their first premises in St Albans late the following year before also launching a Hitchin store in 2016.
They are advocates for social modern retail spaces which extend beyond a space to buy and take away, providing a welcoming hub for like-minded people.
At the Stortford shop, which is run by manager Ben Kanduth, there are plans to launch a running club after the idea proved successful at its Hitchin branch.
Other events in the pipeline include tasting and food pairing evenings as well as ‘meet the brewer’ nights.
The inviting seating area has room for 60 seated guests, but you can also get Beer Shop’s huge selection of drinks delivered direct to your door. Twice-weekly deliveries are made to addresses in Hertfordshire while beers can also be delivered nationwide thanks to its courier partner.
