The Secret Garden: Classic children's tale to be performed in St Mary the Virgin Church in Stansted Mountfitchet
An adaptation of Frances Hodgson Burnett's The Secret Garden is to be performed live in Stansted, signalling a welcome return to touring for theatre companies.
This Is My Theatre will stage a production featuring puppetry and folk music within the beautiful setting of St Mary the Virgin Church on Saturday August 21 at 1pm.
Ethan Taylor, the company's associate artistic director, said: "We're very excited to be one of the first theatre companies dusting ourselves off and getting back on the road, and we're sure that our fun-filled show will bring some much-needed joy this summer.
"The productions will be all that This Is My Theatre audiences have come to love about our shows and we're very excited to be re-engaging communities with the arts after these past few months of lockdown."
The Secret Garden, published in 1911, tells the story of 10-year-old Mary Lennox, who is sent to live with her uncle on his country estate on the Yorkshire Moors following the death of her wealthy parents in India.
She was unloved and neglected by her parents and was cared for primarily by native servants, who allowed her to become spoilt, demanding and self-centred.
Mary soon discovers friendship and laughter with Martha the housemaid and Ben Weatherstaff the gardener – and when a friendly robin helps her discover a secret garden, life for all those at the estate alters for the better.
Tickets priced £15 (£12 for under-16s) can be bought online from www.thisismytheatre.com/secretgardenatstansted.
