Top theatre and opera director Stephen Unwin to regale Much Hadham audience with tales of his career
A renowned theatre director who has worked with some of the finest actors in the industry, including Dame Judi Dench, Tilda Swinton and Timothy West, is to visit Much Hadham later this month.
Stephen Unwin, who is also a playwright and teacher, will be at the village hall on Saturday September 21 for an evening of “insights, stories and socialising”.
A leading figure in British theatre, his career, which began at the Edinburgh Festival in 1981, spans more than four decades. He has become a significant force in theatre and opera, directing over 50 productions.
Stephen is best known as founder of the English Touring Theatre (ETT) in 1993, where he directed iconic productions including Hamlet (starring Alan Cumming) and Hedda Gabler, which won the prestigious TMA Best Touring Production award.
“In The Spotlight Interview: Stephen Unwin”, organised by Much Hadham Drama Group and part of the two-month Arts in East Herts cultural programme, promises to be a rich and varied event, with Stephen sharing tales from his remarkable career, followed by an on-stage interview and an open Q&A session with the audience.
Attendees will have the chance to see him work with a few lucky members of the audience, offering a unique glimpse into his creative process.
The night will conclude with a relaxed social gathering, where drama enthusiasts can mingle with Stephen over a glass of wine, making it a perfect opportunity to network and meet like-minded individuals.
Profits from this event will go to St Elizabeth’s, the home, school and college at Perry Green for children and young people with epilepsy and complex needs, where Stephen’s son Joey lives.
Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Tickets at £20 can be obtained by calling 01279 842742 or online via www.ticketsource.co.uk/much-hadham-drama-group.
