Much Hadham Drama Group performing three comedies in one night at village hall
Much Hadham Drama Group will put a smile on your face when it performs three short comedies in one evening.
The amateur company is putting its spin on a trio of one-act plays in 3 in 1, with shows taking place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, November 14-16, at Much Hadham Village Hall.
The opening piece will be Failed Investments, written by Lynn Brittney and directed by Lisa Turpcu.
Carol and Anne are holding a residents’ meeting for their block of flats, but the subject of ground rent gets lost in the welter of human issues that get aired on an eventful evening. Anne is being made miserable by her odious ex-husband while Margaret is representing her son’s interests at the meeting and has just been told he is homosexual.
Judith, a timid fellow resident, is having a hard time coping with unemployment and a troublesome family.
And Carol is far from pleased when Anne reveals to the others that Carol is, in fact, a lesbian.
The four women, finally united by the condemnation of the male-orientated society that is making their lives so hard, set about redressing the balance.
With four strong parts for women, this adult play provides ample food for thought as well as moments of drama and piquant social comedy.
The second tale is Joining the Club, written by David Tristram and directed by Amy Prosser, about a successful career woman who becomes unexpectedly expectant.
This is the night that Jenny plans to reveal the results of her home pregnancy test to her husband. But he has some startling news of his own.
The final act, written by Tristram and directed by Sue Wetherall, is Last Tango in Little Grimley about an amateur dramatic society in trouble.
The membership has dwindled to four, the audiences aren’t much bigger and if it doesn’t come up with some rent money soon it’s going to be thrown out.
There’s only one thing that sells tickets these days, argues Gordon the chairman - sex!
Thus begins the chaotic and hilarious build-up to an evening of extraordinary home-grown drama - an evening the locals will never forget.
The performance gets under way at 8pm each night (doors open at 7.30pm). Tickets can be bought online at www.ticketsource.co.uk/much-hadham-drama-group or by calling 01279 842742.
