Embrace your inner Roman and dinosaur with activities and shows for the whole family to enjoy this summer at South Mill Arts.
Kick off the holidays in Bishop's Stortford Museum with a host of Roman-inspired activities. With all the archaeological finds at Grange Paddocks it's a brilliant time to learn more about our shared past.
Little ones can live like Romans with three weeks of free, drop-in children's activities, exploring their way of life in Britain with games, crafts, trails and activities.
Togas won't have been worn much in our cold climate, but on August 2-4 you can make a laurel wreath and pose in a toga, tunic or dress. Then why not make a wax writing tablet and scratch your name using the Roman alphabet?
From August 9-11 it's all about the mighty Roman army. Try on armour and make your own helmet, design a shield or standard using Roman numerals and give yourself a Roman name. Can you work out how a fort was laid out? Once you hear about the punishments for falling asleep or rebelling, you'll be glad it's only pretend!
Finally, from August 16-18, discover what living at home was like. Who would you be in the hierarchy of mosaic making and can you follow the rules for your mosaic? Learn about their ingenious heating systems and how they kept their homes secure.
On August 3 there is a pre-school story time session in the museum. Enjoy hearing the story Billy's Bucket, songs and some colouring or crafts. This is a free drop-in session, so just turn up.
If a party is what you're after then make sure not to miss Sarah and Duck's Big Top Birthday on August 5.
Featuring a host of wonderful characters from the BAFTA Award-winning children's TV show, the tale is told through a fantastic blend of inventive puppetry, charming storytelling and toe-tapping music.
With all the familiar voices from the CBeebies series, including Roger Allam as the narrator and Lesley Nicol as Scarf Lady, Sarah & Duck's Big Top Birthday will take families on a magical theatrical adventure.
Looking for something with a bit of bite? Dinosaur Adventure Live heads to the South Mill Arts stage on August 13.
Join the intrepid dinosaur adventurers as they journey to a world of living, breathing, life-like dinosaurs. Walk with them through the Jurassic era on an unforgettable interactive experience as they introduce you to some of the most incredible species to have lived on Earth.
