Become a member of Bishop's Stortford Social Club to enjoy great food and drink, snooker, pool, darts, live entertainment, Sky Sports, BT Sport and much more
There has never been a better time to become a member and experience everything on offer at Bishop's Stortford Social Club.
From delicious food and competitively-priced drinks to games, live entertainment and social events, the South Street venue has got something for everyone.
And with plans being made to mark its 150th anniversary in 2023, signing up to become a club member for just £25 a year – half price for over-65s – will mean you can be part of the big birthday celebrations at the family-friendly venue.
The club was founded in 1873 and originally known as Bishop's Stortford Working Men's Club.
It began life in small premises behind the Corn Exchange and soon moved to a large Georgian house in South Street.
Its current premises, next to Holy Trinity Church, were built in the 1930s and officially opened in 1938.
The name was changed to Bishop's Stortford Social Club around a decade ago to reflect the fact women could also enjoy the range of facilities.
Now Rachel Hatton and her fellow joint-manager Graham Percival, with help from the likes of president John Thompson and secretary Trevor King, are keen to grow its current membership of 450.
You will always be greeted with a warm and friendly welcome in the relaxed, modern environment, with the subsidised bar meaning members can enjoy great-value drinks.
There is high-quality catering on offer too, including snacks, bar meals and Sunday roasts, while a three-course Christmas menu is also being offered during the festive season.
There is a happy hour every Friday and all of the big football matches on Sky Sports and BT Sport can be watched on the big screens.
You can challenge friends to a match on the club's three snooker tables, two pool tables and dartboard, with the venue also running darts and poker leagues.
The wealth of entertainment also includes bingo, fruit machines, karaoke, regular raffles with great prizes, family fun days, live music, discos and even day trips. Saturday-night entertainment can also be enjoyed by non-members at £5 a head.
There is also a modern function room that is available to hire for both members and non-members while the club is fully air conditioned and has a patio for when the weather is a little warmer.
Upcoming events include a kids' Christmas party on Saturday December 17 and a New Year's Eve disco on Saturday December 31.
The club is also holding its hugely popular annual charity darts night on Wednesday December 28 in memory of former member Dave Rawlinson. Proceeds from the night, which gets under way from 7pm and is for both members and non-members, go to Macmillan Cancer Support.
The club is open from midday every day (closed Tuesdays) until 11pm apart from Fridays and Saturdays when it closes at midnight.
So get down to Bishop's Stortford Social Club at 104 South Street to pick up a membership form and start enjoying everything it has to offer today.
